Project Name : Support on fodder value-chain capacity-building activities and fodder inputs distribution  Beletweyn and Jowhar districts in the Hirshabelle States of Somalia from  14th January 2023 to  4th  March2024 funded by FAO

 The main objective of the project was to strengthen the resilience against shocks and production capacity and reduce the vulnerabilities of pastoral and agro-pastoral communities in HirShabelle State of Somalia. The following were the project outputs:

  1. Fodder inputs distributed to the fodder processing facilities.
  2. Government extension staff and fodder groups’ representatives trained on fodder best practices.
  • Local artisans trained on fabrication of fodder equipment.

The planned project activities were implemented with the following outputs having been achieved:

  • Twenty govern staff and representatives of fodder groups trained on fodder best practices in Beletweyn and Jowhar districts
  • Eight local artisans trained in local fabrication of fodder equipment
  • Fodder production and processing machines and equipment handed over to the government in the two districts
  • A total of 11,432 KGs of fodder seeds (8,314 for Jowhar and 3,118 for Beletweyn) distributed to farmers
  • 60 fodder value chain stakeholders held a workshop bringing together fodder producers and suppliers of inputs and services and formed a fodder value chain forum with an oversight committee
